Commodification

The act of converting a living being, a principle, or the natural environment itself into an "object" that is used, compromised, exchanged, or consumed in order to make a profit, satisfy a desire, gain publicity, accrue power or pursue some other goal that very often has an addictive quality. The process of commodification does not respect the inherent dignity and worth of those it acts upon, and is therefore destructive to the fabric of community and the web of life.
