Animal protection

Any type of work carried out with the intent to spare animals from harm or death.

Common Misuse: Some organizations involved in attempts to reform the way that animals are being used and killed describe this as "animal protection" work, yet the result of their efforts is rarely "protection," as the animals in question are routinely killed on a mass scale, and the killing itself is largely unchallenged by such groups.
